Lugonia Elementary
Lugonia Elementary is a pre-school through fifth grade public school in the Redlands Unified School District. It is situated on the northeast side of Redlands and draws its students from the surrounding neighborhoods where a number of the homes are federal housing complexes for low-income families.
The school serves nearly 500 students from various family backgrounds, ethnicities, and religions. Until just a few years ago, Lugonia Elementary struggled to get students to come to school on a consistent basis. The students simply weren’t motivated to attend school, which is when The River Church along with help from students from the University of Redlands YoungLife Group began a lunch-time intramural sports program for fourth and fifth grade students.
The intramural program gained popularity and over the last few years has immensely helped fourth and fifth grade student attendance on intramural days. The school realized the incredible jump in student attendance and the drop in disciplinary problems on intramural days and approached The River to see if the intramural program could be expanded for the 2016-2017 school year.
This is when The River came back with the idea of starting a PE program to help get students moving, having fun, and simply attending school on a regular basis. Lugonia loves the idea, but realizes that a PE program is not something in their ever-shrinking school budget.
And this is where REVIVE PE was born...REVIVE PE is the PE Program that has been created to fill the need for PE at Lugonia Elementary!
